Melanie Lynskey
Melanie Jayne Lynskey was born on May 16th, 1977 in New Zealand. She is known for her portrayals of complex women and her command of American dialects, she performs mostly in independent films. Lynskey was the recipient of two Critics Choice Awards. She also won Gracie and a New Zealand Film Award. A Hollywood Film Award. Sundance Special Jury Award. Gotham, Satellite and Saturn. Independent Spirit. Screen Actors Guild. Primetime Emmy Award nominations.
Lynskey was a screen actor when she made her debut in Heavenly Creatures (1994). She was awarded an New Zealand Film Award for her role as Pauline Parker, a teenage serial killer. The actress later was in a variety of international productions, including Ever After (1998), Detroit Rock City, But I'm A Cheerleader, The Cherry Orchard, Snakeskin (2001), Shooters, Abandon, Sweet Home Alabama (2/22/02). Lynskey was an established character actor following her making the move to the United States. She is most well-known for her roles in a myriad of large-budget and small-scale films such as Shattered Glass (2003) and Flags of Our Fathers (2006).
In 2012, Lynskey received critical acclaim and she received a Gotham Award nomination for her starring role as a depressed divorcee in The Big Ask (2012), which she starred in as a depressed divorcee in I Must Be Going, which was the turning point of her career. Subsequent lead parts included The Big Ask (2013), Happy Christmas, We'll Never Have Paris, Goodbye to All That (all 2014), The Intervention, Rainbow Time, Little Boxes (all 2016), I Don't Feel at the Home of This World Anymore, And Then I Go (both 2017), Sadie (2018) and Lady of the Manor (2021) established her as an influential figure in the American independent film community
